U-21, U-20 teams should Play SAFF Championship: Sunil Chettri

Indian football team captain Sunil Chettri  has said it would be better if India ‘s under 20 or Under -21 teams are sent to  SAFF Championship so that youngsters get crucial international experience through this. He said this while addressing the press online on Sunday.

On Head Coach Igor Stimac’s request of having of having long preparatory camps he said that longer camps followed by friendlies against teams that are in top seven in Asia are required for preparing for international tournaments

 Regarding his future with the national team he said he does not have any date for international retirement in mind but the moment he thinks he is not adding anything to the team he would retire.

He said that the team is looking forward to the King’ Cup in Thailand and the Meredeka cup in Malaysia where they would face off against high ranked teams like Iraq.

 He has said that the three back to back wins for India at the 3 nations cup in Manipur, the Hero Intercontinental cup and the SAFF Championship have boosted the team’s confidence,   helped in preparations for the AFC Asian Cup and generated a lot of interest in Indian football. Chettri added that these victories have also put pressure on all stakeholders to ensure that the team does well at the AFC Asian Cup
