Record Turnout at Badrinath this year

Total of 12.31 lakh devotees visited the famous Badrinath Shrine located at Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district this year. The shrine has now been closed for its annual winter break which would extend for 6 months. The 2013 disaster had resulted in sharp decline in devotee turnout for a couple of years. In 2013 the Chorabari Glacier gave way causing flash floods due to which large devastation took place. Even road connectivity was affected as a result of  which thousands of pilgrims were left stranded. In 2014 the turnout was a mere 1.8 lakh people but pilgrim turnout started to pick up from 2015 onwards.
