Arunachal Pradesh Court Summons Rahul Gandhi

Congress president Rahul Gandhi has been issued summons by a local court of Arunachal Pradesh for his derogatory remarks on the surname ‘Modi’. Court of chief judicial magistrate, East Siang district issued the summons.

The summon have been issued in response to a criminal defamation suit filed by advocate Omit Modi. Omit Modi is a resident of Pasighat, the headquarters of East Siang district.

“Why do all the thieves have the Modi surname?” Gandhi had said Gandhi had wondered during an election rally in Karnataka recently.

The advocate in his complainant said that ‘freedom of expression is not a wild horse and is qualified with dignity and reputation of others.’ He felt that the statement was made with the intent to malign the reputation of those having this surname.
