Goa became only the second state in India after Uttarakhand to offer bungee jumping as it inaugurated 855 meter Bungee jumping facility at the scenic Mayhem lake in North Goa. Apart from Goa only Uttarakhand offers a 83 meter high Bungee jumping facility at Rishikesh. One can Bungee jump at Rishikesh over the Ganga in the beautiful mountain setting.
The facility at Mayhem lake was inaugurated by Goa Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant who expressed satisfaction at the efforts of Goa Tourism to make bungee jumping a reality in the state. He disclosed that tourism in Goa is set to get a major push as the Union government is planning large scale infrastructure projects in the state in the near future. The Mayhem bungee jumping installation fills a major void so far as demand for bungee jumping in Peninsular India is concerned as tourists now wouldn’t need to go all the way to Uttarakhand for taking part in this adventure sport.
Goa bungee jumping facility is built by Jumpin Heights the same company which built and operates the bungee jumping facility at Rishikesh. The Rishikesh facility was started by Jumping Heights in 2010.
Usually bungee jump is done from stationery platforms however there are variations to this like jumping from a movable crane, helicopter or hot air balloons etc. The first recorded bungee jump was made by student members of Oxford University Danger Sports Club from the Clifton suspension bridge in Bristol way back in 1979 since then it has become one of the major adventure sports the world over. Australia, New Zealand and South Africa are some of the the major bungee jumping centers of the world.
