The government is ready to introduce 20-rupee coin first time in India. This coin will be Polygon having diameter of 27 mm and its outer ring will be made of nickel brass (copper: 65 %, Zinc: 15 % and nickel: 20%). The center piece of the coin will also be made of nickel brass (copper: 75 %, Zinc: 20 % and nickel: 5 %).
In March 2009 the Reserve Bank of India had issued the first 10-rupee coin and since then the prevalence of coins have increased. The government is also releasing a new series of coins of Re 1, Rs 2, Rs 5 and Rs 10.
The new Re 1 coin will be made up of ferritic stainless steel having diameter of 20 mm (Iron: 83 % and Chromium:17%).
The new Rs 2 coin will be made up of ferritic stainless steel having diameter of 23 mm (Iron: 83 % and Chromium:17%).
The new Rs 5 coin will be made up nickel brass having diameter of 25 mm (Copper: 75%, Zinc: 20% and Nickel: 5%)
The new Rs 10 coin will be made up of nickel brass having diameter of 27 mm. Its outer ring will be made up of nickel brass (Copper: 75%, Zinc: 20% and Nickel: 5%) and its center part will also be made of nickel brass (Copper: 65%, Zinc: 15% and Nickel: 20%).
