Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia has won the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize for his peacemaking efforts with Eritrea.
Ethiopia and Eritrea have been hostile to each other and had fought a border war from 1998 to 2000, they restored relations in July 2018 after a peace deal was signed between the two nations largely due to the efforts of PM Abiy Ahmed.
Ahmed was able to secure the peace deal with Eritrea barely months after coming to power besides carrying out several reforms.
The Nobel peace prize will be presented to him in Oslo on Dec. 10.
