Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Rs 75,000-crore Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme at Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh. The scheme aims to give yearly monetary assistance of INR 6,000 to small and marginal farmers who are cultivating land up to two hectares. The assistance would be given in three installments to 12 crore farmers across the country. As a beginning the first installment of INR 2000 has been deposited in accounts of 1.01 crore farmers.
The PM-KISAN scheme was announced in the Interim Budget 2019-20. At the launch of the scheme Prime Minister Modi praised the scheme as the money was directly transferred to the account of the beneficiary without the role of any middlemen.Attachments area
