President Confers National Awards to Teachers
President Ram Nath Kovind honored 46 teachers in New Delhi as recognition for their contribution towards nation building on National Teacher’s Day. The award is given to teachers, who through their hard work have helped in improving the quality of school education and have deeply influenced their students.

Speaking on the occasion, President Kovind said the foundation of a person’s character is laid in schools and added that for students, teachers are like parents. President appealed to the teacher community to understand their fundamental responsibilities. Prime Minister Narender Modi and Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu also greeted teachers on this occasion.

PM Modi requested teachers to actively support the elimination of single use plastic usage. He emphasized the importance of teachers in the success of the drive saying that if teachers explain the adverse environmental impact of single use plastics to the students and advice them to shun it, students will get motivation to be a part of the cause.

The PM said that having a successful nationwide drive against single use plastic will be a great tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary on October 2, 2019.

Modi was high praise for the teaching community which he described as ‘selfless’ and expressed satisfaction that teachers are working hard to inspire youngsters to take up research and innovation.
