Uttarakhand to Have a Directorate Dedicated to Adventure Activities

In a bid to promote adventure tourism in the Himalayan state the Uttarakhand government is planning to set up a separate directorate to look into adventure activities.

Announcement to this affect was made by the state’s Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat while speaking to press persons at the Pauri guest house.

The northern state is a major tourist destination for tourists especially for adventure sports like trekking, mountaineering and rafting.

Rawat said that the planned directorate would be headed by an IAS officer and would strive to popularise a host of adventure activities such as trekking, mountaineering, biking, rock climbing, paragliding, hot air ballooning, bungee jumping, rafting etc.

He explained that the rationale behind having a separate directorate is to realise the potential the state has in the segment of adventure tourism, attract high end tourists and generate employment.

The CM also advised people to incorporate Pahari elements in the architecture of their homes so as to highlight the local culture. He also expressed his desire that Pauri, his home district evolves in the lines of Jaipur with a particular color as its identity.

Rawat also announced his resolve to develop a ‘Sita Mata Circuit’ in Pauri which would include Sita Mata Temple at Phalaswadi, the Raghnath Temple of Devprayag and Laxman temple of Dewal as part of religious tourism.
