Relief for Maharashtra Farmers

Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari has announced financial relief and tax exemptions for farmers adversely affected by un seasonal rains. Koshiyari announced these measures after taking stock of the damage caused to crops because of the unexpected rains. The Governor’s relief package amounts to Rs 8000 per hectare up to two hectares for Kharif crops and compensation of Rs 18000 per hectare upto 2 hectares for horticultural and perennial crops. The governor has asked the  administration to distribute this relief immediately. Apart from this compensation, the Governor also announced that the the affected farmers would be exempted from land revenue and their children would be exempted from their school or college examination fees.
