Rishi Kumar Shukla, former MP DGP has been appointed for a period of two years as the new CBI director by a high-powered committee comprising Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and leader of opposition Mallikarjun Kharge. He is a 1983 batch officer and he has served as the Director General of Police, Madhya Pradesh.
At present Rishi Kumar Shukla is a chairman of the Madhya Pradesh Police Housing Corporation and he will take charge from interim director Mannem Nageswara Rao, who was appointed by the government after Alok Verma was sacked due to corruption charges.
A panel led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi met twice to select the new CBI chief. The first meeting remained unfruitful while the second meeting took place on this Friday at the PM’s residence and it lasted for over an hour and the final decision was taken by the panel that Rishi Kumar Shukla will be the new CBI director.
